Hello dear Miss McKeever, Is Germany certified already as Swim Safe Federation? I am asking this question because as a swim teacher and coach and formed in Hungary, I am constantly facing the old-school and not -safe ways of teaching „swimming „ in Germany. ( There no job like certified swim teacher in Germany and anybody can teach swimming even if they have no clue how to swim themselves.) They never teach kids to put their heads under water, never teach breathing. The swimming kids learn is NOT safe. I want to change the system, knowing how it works in Hungary but I am constantly snapped on the face saying: this is how we do it in Germany and if you don’t like it, you can go. What can I do?

My mentor is Dr. Àkos Tòth who funded the Hungarian School Swim Program: „Each child must learn to swim for age 3-8“. I have the knowledge to improve German system, but I am hitting a wall every time I try to share it. The only thing matters in Germany: for parents: quick and cheap course and giving up responsibility For clubs/institutions: making as much money as possible… Have you got any advice how and where to start the change?

How does this discussion work? By now, it feels quite unilateral. Can we get a zoom link please to be able to join the event „flat-rate“ and active, please?

Dear Katalin! I can very much relate to your experience from Austria. It took me more than 15 years to demonstrate that a swimming education system combining elements of the Hungarian and Australian approaches, carefully adapted to the Austrian environment, can work very effectively. Today, the results are recognised at federation level, although changing structures on paper is only one part of the journey. The much greater challenge is changing established habits, teaching cultures and mindsets. Austria has made significant progress in education and qualification structures, but implementation still depends heavily on the people involved. If I may share one lesson from my own experience: don’t try to change the system alone. Find respected professionals within Germany who recognise the same problems, build a professional network around a shared vision, and demonstrate together – through measurable results and good practice – that another approach works. Good ideas can start a discussion. Evidence can convince people. But lasting change needs a community of professionals willing to carry it together. I sincerely hope your journey in Germany will be faster than my more than 15-year journey in Austria. I wish you the right partners and a lot of perseverance. There is no streaming from today's conference... Is it supposed to be the same as yesterday? That was my understanding, but there is just a picture of European Aquatics. No streaming.

Hi Stefan, I think the Federation joint Sessions are not streamed today. It seems to me that it was all by now. Or maybe only the green highlighted titles of the schedule will be live-streamed? In my opinion, the online-community (flat-rate participants at home) are a bit neglected...unfortunately. I wish we could have a zoom-link to be able to participate a bit more actively through the sessions for the money we paid.
